About Me

"Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life."  Confucius

A Liverpool resident for 52 years, I am passionate about the city, its history and its future. I have been guiding for 13 years, first as a local foreign language guide and then, since 2013, as a qualified, insured Blue Badge Guide, Britain's highest professional qualification for tour guides. I graduated as the winner of the prestigious Institute of Tourist Guiding's "Guide of the Year" and also won a prize for creating a walk in a contest held by Liverpool RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). With a degree in French and 5 years in France, I offer tours in French as well as English.

Why Choose a Blue Badge Guide

The Blue Badge is the highest professional guiding qualification which is presented by the Institute of Tourist Guiding, the officially recognised standard-setting and awarding body for England, after a year's study and 8 examinations. Holders of the Blue Badge are permitted to put M.I.T.G. after their name ((Member of the Institute of Tourist Guiding) after their name and many tour operators and cruise ships will only use Blue Badge guides. Unlike many countries where only those with the local equivalent of the Blue Badge Qualification are legally allowed to guide, anyone in Britain can call themselves a tour guide. The possession of a Blue Badge is your guarantee that your guide is qualified and insured and regularly undergoes continual, professional development and should help you choose between what can be a plethora of tours. Read more about Blue Badge Guides here.

I currently offer a variety of guided coach tours: Liverpool City Highlights, Beatles, Peaky Blinders Filming Locations, Southport, Port Sunlight, Speke Hall, Titanic and Chester (as a day-trip from Liverpool) as well as over 25 guided walks and several illustrated PowerPoint talks. Meet and Greet services and Airport pick-ups are also available.

Previous Clients have included Marie France magazine, Olympique Marseille, Bosch, the Everyman Theatre, visiting journalists, conference parties, tour operators and coach companies, various cruise ships, school parties, U3A, Probus, Rotary, History and Women's Institute groups and simply groups of friends who want to learn more about the area. I acted as historical advisor for a lottery project on the Titanic which produced a DVD and assisted in a BBC Wales programme on the "Liverpool - Capital of North Wales."

I speak fluent French thanks to 5 years teaching English in French universities and am very much a francophile. I have also spent around a total of a year in Japan. I hold the CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) certificate from the University of Cambridge which helps me identify with the problems faced by foreign visitors to the city and modify my spoken language accordingly.
